Your First Meeting.

You are looking for help, but you afraid there isn’t anyone who could possibly do what you’ve done, much less understand and accept me for who you are.

Take a breath, and know that your first SAA meeting will be an experience of acceptance and understanding. Most of us hesitated to go to our first meeting.

And here is how simple it is.

As you come through the door physical or virtual, you’ll see the faces of men and women who know your troubles: they’ve all been there too.
If you are on a physical meeting you can choose to sit on any available seat. There are is no assign seating. If you arrive before the meeting you can sit and wait until the meeting starts, if you arrived after you can also enter and sit.
You will probably be asked by at least one person if this is your first meeting, and asked to use your first name only to introduce yourself to the group.
The leader of the meeting may then explain to you how that meeting will introduce you to the SAA 12 step recovery program and give you some free welcome literature.
Your first meeting will likely be an opportunity for you to listen, learn about the program, and ask questions after the meeting. You are not required to share if you would rather not. Many of us don’t feel comfortable at first.

Why going to a meeting would help.

“Meetings are the heart of the SAA fellowship. At meetings we emerge from our shame, secrecy, and fear, into a community of people who share the common goal of freedom from sex addiction. They give us the opportunity to talk about our lives and our addiction with other sex addicts, people who have had similar experiences and understand the problems we face. Attending our first SAA meeting is a crucial step in moving away from isolation into fellowship, and ultimately into recovery.” (Sex Addicts Anonymous)
